Overcoming the Blocks That Hold You Back
Major transitions are some of the most pivotal—and challenging—moments in a leader’s life. They bring opportunity, but they also bring to the surface emotional and mental blocks that can feel insurmountable. Fear, self-doubt, or even a sense of loss may arise, leaving us wondering if we’re truly ready for what’s next.
But here’s the truth: Every block is an invitation to grow.
Understanding the Blocks
Transitions often trigger:
- Fear of the Unknown: “What if I fail?”
- Questioning: Should I even consider???
- Attachment to the Past: “Will I lose who I’ve been or the level I’ve achieved?”
- Imposter Syndrome: “Am I good enough to succeed in this new role?”
These are normal responses to stepping into the unknown. But they are not permanent.
Shifting the Perspective
Instead of resisting these blocks, ask yourself:
- What is this fear trying to teach me about my values?
- How can I honor my past while embracing the call for the future?
- Who am I becoming through this process?
When you lean into these questions, you reclaim your power to move forward.
Practical Steps for Moving Through Blocks
- Acknowledge Your Feelings: Denying emotions only strengthens them. Take time to sit with what’s coming up.
- Reframe the Story: Replace limiting beliefs with empowering truths. Instead of, “I’m not ready,” say, “I’m preparing for this challenge.”
- Seek Support: Transitions are not meant to be navigated alone. Surround yourself with trusted allies who are also growing and expanding, (remember the 5 people around you) mentors, or a coach who can help you uncover blind spots and build confidence.
Your Challenge for February:
Identify one mental or emotional block you’ve been facing. Write down how it has limited you—and one step you can take this week to begin transforming it.
Transitions aren’t just about changing your circumstances; they’re about evolving into the leader you’re meant to be. When you embrace the process, you’ll find that the blocks are not walls—they’re stepping-stones.
