Reinvention Is a Choice Few Are Willing to Make
There is a reason most people never truly reinvent themselves.
It’s not because they can’t. It’s because they won’t. Reinvention requires you to take full responsibility for the life you are living. Not as something that has happened to you -
but as something you have participated in creating.
And that realization is both empowering and confronting. Because if your life is the result of your past choices, beliefs, and patterns… Then change is not about waiting. It is about choosing.
Choosing differently. Thinking differently. Being differently.
And that disrupts everything. It challenges long-held identities. It exposes unconscious agreements. It asks you to release the comfort and trap of certainty. It can be scary. Take it from me. Imagine 3 months before - a nun in a long black habit of many layers – then an international sex symbol in a micro mini… OMG. Yet I wouldn’t change a thing. Culture shock be damned!!! It was life giving as well as totally discombobulating. I knew both, intimately.
I understand why most people prefer survival over truth. They’ve adjusted around dissatisfaction rather than addressing it. Sadly, disappearing each and every time that choice is made.
They tell themselves it’s “just how life is” but it isn’t. Reinvention is always readily available.
At any age.
At any stage.
At any level of success.
It is not reserved for the brave. It’s what makes you braver. The choice is fully yours. So, the real question is not whether you can reinvent your life. It’s whether you are willing to choose it.
I am not calling for an all-out revolt here. At times, your reinvention simply means an absolute change an approach, in attitude, and in style while most of your life remains the same. A new attitude from fearful and rigid to laid back and adaptable can shock some folks as well as your system. You will hear, “Who are you?” “What happened to the old you?”
Other times, it is a total reevaluation of your life. A move to another country – a new job – becoming an entrepreneur – leaving a dead relationship you hadn’t wanted to look at – downsizing to something that fits the new you… There are no limits, no expectations, and no rules.
You can see why choosing to come alive, to reinventing yourself, to deciding it is time for passion, vibrancy, and the freedom to grow and expand can be terrifying. Know however, it is a call to become who you were meant to be. My first book Dreams Are Only The Beginning: Becoming Who You Are Meant To Be shares my story. Now it’s your turn. Choose yours.
