The Question of Labor Day
After a lifetime of amazingly and blessedly great health, with doctors constantly shocked that I have never been on meds for a chronic disease or disorder, last year, for the first time in years, I had a major health issue. Knowing what I do about the psycho/spiritual realities behind physical disease and disorders, I spent a great deal of time in meditation, reflection, and discussions with a friend of many decades. Consequently, I reassessed my work schedule, my mindset, and my lifestyle and made significant changes.
Thus, surprisingly, I recently had another medical issue and hospitalization, and it has caused me to go even deeper, even further, in reassessing my values, my work ethic, and my approach to my life overall. I have often said that we came here to teach what we came here to learn. Unfortunately, and yet fortunately, I have been proven correct.
In the first instance, I cut my workload significantly.I ended my days hours sooner than previously. Rather than 7:00pm or later it varied from 3:00pm – 6:00 with an occasional 7:00 for a group meeting I thoroughly enjoy. This latest has caused me to step back even further and realize that yes, I am doing less than previously, and spending quiet evenings gloriously alone, or with friends having dinner out or sharing a glass of wine on a long distance phone call of laughs, tears, and/or simply catching up.
What I now see however, is that doing less of what I don’t enjoy is still not feeding my soul. It is not bringing peace, and it is not solving the problem. Yes, I have a great deal of joy in my life, a wonderfully full family, numerous siblings, children, grandchildren, etc. and thankfully many friends, some all the way back to grade school.
The questions I have sat with these past two weeks, in taking a deep breath into full transparency with myself, (not always the easiest of tasks) is, what is it that I no longer want to do?
What is it that I resist as long as possible?
What things do I resent needing to do?
If my body is telling me that self-betrayal, continuing things I have far outgrown, that no longer make me a better me, that no longer call me to grow but instead hold me back, is causing me illness, then the real question is why have I continued with them?
Complacency?
Fear of what’s next?
Illusionary survival questions?
Who will I be if I don’t… What will I do with my time if….
Fear? Avoidance? Growth? Expansion?
Whichever, or all, they have made it necessary for the proverbial 2x4 to say: “Time to reassess even further.”
When we outgrow one stage of life or of business, it isn’t the end, it’s the one door closing another opening place.
How many of you have been avoiding or not seeing that it is time? Time to work differently? To change your day-day approach? To be more selective in who you work with? In how you work? In how you live your life?
In teaching what I came here to learn, take the risk! Take the chance before illness strikes, a message I have been giving my clients for decades. A message I am hearing loud and clear.
If you need help with it, whatever your call to reinvention, reach out!!!!! I have known it for years and certainly I am now even more of an expert, having worked with it up front and center. I am awake and aware and more than willing to partner with you to walk through the questions, without the 2x4.
